Walmart is gearing up for a significant expansion, confirming the opening of new stores in two states as part of its massive 150-site growth plan. This move will not only bring convenience to thousands of new customers but also create a substantial number of jobs, a welcome boost for local economies.
The first store will open its doors on January 14 in Apollo Beach, Florida, followed by another in Eastvale, California, in mid-January. But here's where it gets exciting: Walmart has revealed plans for three more stores in Florida, including Ocala, Jacksonville, and The Villages, all set to open in early 2026.
The Eastvale store, in particular, will be a massive 170,000 square feet, featuring a fuel station, a deli, meat and bakery departments, a pharmacy, a vision center, and a fresh produce section. This store alone is expected to generate 300 new jobs, a significant contribution to the local community.
This expansion is part of Walmart's broader strategy to build or convert 150 stores over the next five years. In 2025 alone, they opened 10 new stores across Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, and Texas, including Walmart Supercenters, Neighborhood Markets, and a Sam's Club warehouse.
But there's more! Walmart is also renovating at least 650 stores across 47 states and Puerto Rico, with 117 already redesigned by November. These revamped stores showcase improved technology and expanded product offerings, all aimed at enhancing the shopping experience.
John Furner, President and CEO of Walmart U.S., emphasized the company's commitment to community development, stating that these expansions and renovations represent substantial investments that benefit local areas. And it's not just about the money; these stores aim to serve more customers and provide a better shopping experience.
Walmart's 'Store of the Future' concept, unveiled in Houston, Texas, in May, is a testament to their innovation. With hundreds of stores being remodeled, the retail giant is striving to create a more convenient and enjoyable shopping environment.
