Jon Sumrall's Debut Day 1 at Florida Gators Spring Camp 2026 | Full Highlights & Reactions (2026)

Bold opening: Florida’s spring kickoff is here—an electrifying first step for a new era under head coach Jon Sumrall. But here’s where it gets controversial: can one first practice session set the tone for an entire season? This photo gallery captures Day 1 of the Gators’ 2026 spring camp, offering a close look at the energy, focus, and fresh faces that will shape UF’s trajectory ahead of the season.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida hit the practice field for the opening day of spring training under Sumrall, showcasing the debut session for UF’s 50 new players and laying out how practices will function under the new staff as the team progresses through the coming month.

Sumrall lauded the effort on day one while stressing that the real test will come once pads are on and camp intensifies. “A lot of fun getting on the grass. Good energy. Guys running around,” he said. “The first couple days are helmets and T-shirts, so it’s hard to assess physicality, but the intent and effort were solid. The guys were flying around. There’s a lot to learn—very basic. The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step, and today was that first step. We’ve got a long way to go.”

He added, “I like a lot about what happened today, and we’ve got to stack days. Everybody gets excited for day one. I’ve never seen anyone not excited about the first day of practice. The trick is great football teams get excited about every day. So we’ve got to sustain that energy and enthusiasm for what we’re doing.”
