The Eagles are actively laying the groundwork for their roster as they gear up for the 2026 NFL season, having already secured future contracts with 12 players.
Recently, they announced three new signings: safety Andre’ Sam, tight end E.J. Jenkins, and offensive tackle John Ojukwu, each bringing unique skills to the team.
Andre’ Sam has had some experience with the Eagles over the last two seasons. After rookie Andrew Mukuba suffered a season-ending fractured fibula, Sam found himself elevated to the game day roster multiple times. Although he primarily contributed on special teams during the three games he participated in, he also managed to get on the field for three defensive snaps. The safety position is somewhat uncertain for Philadelphia, especially with Reed Blankenship likely heading toward free agency and veteran Marcus Epps’ future hanging in the balance. Therefore, Sam adds valuable depth to this critical area.
Similarly, E.J. Jenkins was utilized in a comparable manner last season, frequently being elevated as the tight end group faced injuries impacting Dallas Goedert and Grant Calcaterra. Like the safety position, the tight end spot is fraught with uncertainty regarding depth, particularly since Goedert, Calcaterra, and Kyler Grayson will all be free agents this spring.
John Ojukwu, the offensive tackle, joined the Eagles after spending three seasons with the Tennessee Titans, where he appeared in 16 games, including 11 during the 2024 NFL season. While most of his time was spent on the practice squad, he was often elevated to the active roster due to injuries. The Eagles place a strong emphasis on fortifying their offensive line, especially as Lane Johnson approaches retirement age, making it vital to secure additional depth.
