In an intriguing move, the Cincinnati Reds have officially brought first baseman Michael Toglia on board with a minor league contract.
Michael Toglia, who was selected in the first round of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies, had shown great potential during his career. His performance in 2024 was particularly impressive; he hit an impressive 25 home runs and drove in 55 runs, along with stealing 10 bases, while maintaining a batting line of .218/.311/.456 over the course of 116 games.
However, the following season proved to be a challenge for Toglia. In 2025, his statistics took a noticeable downturn—he only managed to hit 11 home runs, with 32 RBIs and three stolen bases, culminating in a lower batting line of .190/.258/.353 across 88 games. This drop in his on-base percentage raised eyebrows and sparked concerns about his future performance.
Now, at just 27 years old, Toglia is set to make a fresh start with the Reds. He brings a much-needed power element to a team that ranked 21st in the league for home runs last season. It will be exciting to see if he can reclaim his earlier form and contribute significantly to Cincinnati’s lineup.
What do you think about this signing? Will Toglia bounce back, or is this a sign that his best days may be behind him? Let us know your thoughts!
