Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan reveals that while crypto social media may be abuzz with concern, institutional circles are viewing the drop as an opportunity. In a recent interview, Hougan explained that many professional allocators who initially missed the ETF-driven adoption wave are now embracing lower prices as a chance to enter the market. This shift in mindset is evident in the actions of one prospective client who had been in discussions with Bitwise for two years before committing $11 million. Hougan attributes this to the deliberate and methodical approach of institutions, which often takes time to allocate funds. He clarifies that this perceived hesitation is often just a normal part of the institutional process, not a sign of uncertainty. Despite the volatility, institutions remain the marginal buyers, and their entry into the market is expected to continue. The distribution channels are also expanding, with major wire houses now discussing Bitcoin with clients. However, Hougan notes that around 20-25% of wealth managers are still closed to crypto exposure, indicating that institutional access is gradually growing. He predicts that Bitcoin ETFs will eventually reach a trillion dollars in assets, and this cycle feels different from previous drawdowns, as most people view it as an attractive entry point rather than a sign of despair.
